Journal Reflections for 2023

Free resource to help you reflect, get organized, plan your intentions and create your vision board for 2023.

New Year’s resolutions can get a bad rap. Why is that? Perhaps it’s because many of us jump into making resolutions without really taking the time to reflect on them, which often can result in fizzled out resolutions by Valentine’s Day.

I get it. I’ve totally been there! This happens to me every year if I’m being honest. Some of my 2022 goals were to read/listen to more books and spend less time on my phone/devices. In the past, I would start the year off really strong, along with a good amount of motivation, but by May, my motivation was scarce and my goals were, “out of sight, out of mind.” Where did I go wrong?

As I reflect, I noticed how I really didn’t take the time to think about or write down my WHY and the steps I would take to see these commitments through (HOW), especially when “life happens,” because it always does. It’s important to understand your WHY before making a new commitment to yourself. Once you find your WHY, you can determine HOW you will make it happen.

One thing I did right was reflect and journal about my previous year. I wrote about my “wins” along with my shortcomings and where I wanted to continue growing. I highly suggest you reflect on the past year, in addition to journaling the following prompts:

  1. What is one hope, wish or dream you have for the coming year? Why is this important to you?

  1. Write about one person/place/thing you have been grateful for, this past year. How can you make sure you set aside dedicated time to create space for this person/place/thing in the coming year?

  1. What is one thing you are passionate about, outside of work? How can you be more intentional about pursuing this passion?

  1. Are your actions and energy aligned with how you would like to spend your time? If so, how? If not, how can you move towards better alignment?

  1. REST. PLAY. WORK.

-How can you prioritize real, true, rejuvenating REST? What does this look like?

-How can you incorporate PLAY into your schedule? What is fun for you? (Dancing, singing, creating etc).

-Prioritizing REST and PLAY, can greatly affect how you show up for WORK. How would you like to show up for your work?

Now that you’ve done some reflection, take some time to identify your WHY for every goal/intention/resolution you have for this year. Change, revise and update throughout the year as often as you’d like! I’d also encourage you to define a theme or word you’d like to embody for the upcoming year to help guide your actions throughout the year.

Feel free to utilize these free worksheets I’ve created as a starting point for your goals & intentions.

As you take the time to set your intentions this year, remember to give yourself some grace because hey, you’re only human!
